SIMULATION PLATFORM V2X

In-Vehicle Networking Solutions

V2X is one of the most important technological developments in the automotive industry, as it plays a key role in autonomous driving, connectivity, electric and sharing vehicles. Not only does it provide a more comfortable and safer traffic environment, it is also able to improve traffic efficiency and reduce emissions and accident rates.

However, V2X technology, and the services it enables, are difficult to test and verify due to their nature. To test a V2X function, vehicles must travel according to a predefined pattern in a defined position. Since different test cases and scenarios have to be tested before a new system is introduced, ZD developed the V2X simulation platform to simplify this work. Instead of using the system in real vehicles, new functions can be simulated in a stationary test lab with test benches.

With this platform we use the ZD-Box for the simulation of vehicle signals and the driving environment. It acts as an interface for the transmission of vehicle and V2X data between a gateway and the T-Box. The T-Box is connected to a satellite simulator for GPS positioning. To ensure that the simulated vehicle movement can be coordinated and work together as in the real world, we have developed a test suite with an integrated simulator controller. It allows users to create text cases, issue commands and coordinate the ZD box and the satellite simulator to ensure that all simulated movements match what was defined in the test cases. Thanks to the remote access and test automation feature of the ZD-Box, our simulator controller has the following functions:

  • Web access from different locations
  • Control and coordinate simulator
  • Installation & execution test
  • Test automation mechanism
  • Visualized test scenarios

TEST SCENARIOS

ZD’s V2X platforms can simulate and test various scenarios, such as breakdowns or accidents, reducing our customers’ testing costs and increasing their efficiency. The test scenarios are summarized in the following graphics:

V2X DEMO

In addition to the V2X simulation platform, we have also created a V2X demo to support OEMs in the

development of the in-vehicle HMI system. We use the TCP/IP communication protocol to receive and analyze scene information from the OBU. The parsed data is then sent to the HMI module and displayed on the

dashboard in front of the driver’s seat according to the first-in-first-out principle or “high priority, first play”. By combining images and text, the warning map is dynamically generated according to the scene. For the output we rely on the Pygane Framework to achieve a stable visualization with high frame rate.
